more about: Indian Scooters | terms of sale | company information
We purchase a lot of our scooters from India simply because they are there. One of the main benefits is that they are well looked after. We regularly pick up 1960s models that are single owner and still being driven daily after nearly forty years of service.
Occasionally we meet people who say that 'API' (Automobile Parts of India) or 'SIL' (Scooters India Limited) scooters are not as good as Innocenti scooters. In fact, the early Li150s assembled by API consisted (and some still do) of Innocenti parts that were simply shipped to India. SIL bought the entire Innocenti plant and in 1972 shipped the whole factory to India, where they continued the manufacture of GPs until the mid to late 1990s. SIL still make GP200 engines which are well respected and sold extensively every day in the UK.
A great deal of parts and accessories that go into Lambretta restorations are made in India or Vietnam so we do not really understand Lambretta origin snobbery. The main thing is that Indian Lambrettas (can) look great, the engines are great, they are more affordable, and they're still Lambrettas.
